Getting started
BGBG is coming soon for iPhone. The download link will appear on the homepage when it is available. The app requires iOS 18.6 or later. Start with adding a background, then explore layout and export sizes.
An image won’t import
Try a PNG, JPEG, or HEIC image from Photos or Files. If the original is stored in iCloud, open it in Photos or Files first and allow it to download. Check that you have a working connection for that download and enough free space on your iPhone.
If BGBG reports an import error, try the import again or choose another image. A file with an image extension can still be incomplete or damaged.
I can’t save to Photos
Saving requires permission to add images to your photo library. If permission was denied, use Open Settings in the error alert and allow BGBG to add photos. Then return and retry the export.
You can also choose Share PNG and use the system share sheet to save to Files. Importing with the Photos picker and saving to the photo library are separate operations, so a successful import does not mean saving is allowed.
My export looks different from what I expected
Open Ratio to check the canvas shape and export dimensions. The PNG has a 4096-pixel longest edge; it does not preserve the source’s original pixel dimensions. Small source images can look softer when enlarged.
Check that the foreground stays inside the canvas. Moving or scaling it beyond the canvas clips the overflow. Use Reset position & size in Layout to return to a centered fit.
A project shows unsaved edits
BGBG saves automatically, but a failed disk write can leave edits only in memory. Free up storage if needed, then use Retry when the app offers it. Keep the app open until saving succeeds; an unsaved draft cannot survive app termination.
Where are my projects?
Projects live on the device where you created them. BGBG does not provide cloud project sync or an account-based restore. Keep exported copies of images you want to retain. Uninstalling the app removes its local data.
The gallery menu lets you rename, duplicate, or delete a project. Deleting the project does not delete previously exported PNGs from Photos or Files.
Background blur or area pixelation?
The Blur slider inside Background softens the backdrop. The separate Blur tool lets you draw or add pixelated rectangles on the foreground image. Read the pixelation guide for step-by-step instructions.
