Start with the thing you want to share
A screenshot often has everything it needs to make a point, but very little room around it. Adding a background separates the image from the feed, slide, or conversation it lands in. BGBG puts that background on a new canvas around your original image.
- Open BGBG and tap New project, or Create your first image if your gallery is empty.
- Choose an image from Photos or Files. PNG, JPEG, and HEIC are good starting points.
- Open the Background controls to choose how the surrounding canvas looks.
If your source is in iCloud, allow it to finish downloading. Once imported, the app keeps its own copy in your project so you can return to your composition.
Choose a background that works with the image
Gradient is an easy place to start. BGBG includes six palettes, from the soft lilac and peach of Daydream to the cooler, quieter Graphite. Try a palette that picks up a color already in your screenshot.

Color lets you choose a solid backdrop. An off-white or dark neutral works well for a busy screenshot: the surrounding area gives it space without competing with it.
Photo uses another image as the background. Same image uses your foreground image again to fill the canvas behind it. These are useful when you want the frame to share your photo’s colors and atmosphere.
Soften the background, keep the subject clear
The Blur slider inside the Background controls softens the background only. It can make a photo backdrop feel less busy while leaving the foreground screenshot crisp. This is separate from the Blur tool that pixelates selected areas of the foreground.
Give the screenshot some breathing room
Move to Layout. Increase Padding to create more space, and adjust Corners for a softer edge. Drag the preview to move the image or pinch to resize it. The position sliders offer another way to make those adjustments.
Keep small text large enough to read at the size your audience will see it. More background is not always better; sometimes a narrow border is all a screenshot needs. Use Reset position & size if you want to return to a centered fit.
Choose a canvas and export
Choose a canvas under Ratio, then open Export and select Save to Photos or Share PNG. BGBG exports at a 4096-pixel longest edge; the other dimension follows the selected ratio. Read the framing and export-size guide for exact dimensions.
